Un Techo Para Mi País

Un Techo para mi País was founded in Chile in 1997 by a group of university students who, along with Felipe Berríos S.J., were appalled by the country’s deplorable slum conditions and felt pulled to take an active role in denouncing extreme poverty. They thus gave birth to a project that calls on the entire society to confront the injustices of poverty in the form of the lack of opportunities and the living conditions of more than 200 million Latin Americans.

Because youth solidarity knows no boundaries, UTPMP began to expand internationally in 2001. Currently, we work in 15 countries in Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Our central office in Chile employs 120 full-time young professionals to coordinate the efforts of the local field offices (employing more than 90 people total), which share basic goals and methods while adapting the project to the particular challenges of poverty in each country.
